Einstein Bros. opens new store

Einstein Bros. Bagels opened a location at Gonzaga University last month. Tuesday morning, it’s hosting an official grand opening celebration.

The event takes place at 10 a.m. at the new store in Cataldo Hall on the west side of campus, just off the main entrance of the university.

Einstein Bros. serves bagels, sandwiches, soups, salads, smoothies, sweets and snacks.

It’s open 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday and 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Ivar’s celebrates 75th anniversary

Ivar’s is celebrating its 75th anniversary with dining deals and the launch of its first cookbook.

The cookbook will be reviewed in an upcoming issue of The Spokesman- Review’s Food section.

Meantime, the Spokane Seafood Bar at 14700 E. Indiana Ave. in the Spokane Valley Mall is offering $7.50 dining deals through Nov. 17.

The following menu items are on sale: Super Clams and Coleslaw, three-piece Sole and Chips with Coleslaw, and Shrimp Caesar Salad and a drink.

The late Ivar Haglund began selling clam chowder and fish and chips from Seattle’s Pier 54 in 1938. Today, there are two dozen Ivar’s Seafood Bars and three full-service restaurants as well as five stadium concession stands.

National Bulk Foods Week

Shoppers can cut food waste by buying in bulk – particularly during the third annual National Bulk Foods Week, beginning Monday.

The awareness campaign, sponsored by the Bulk is Green Council, or BIG, runs through Oct. 19 at more than 1,000 grocery stores nationwide. The nonprofit council, founded in 2008, aims to increase consumer, retailer and grocer awareness of the commercial and environmental benefits of buying foods from bulk bins.

During National Bulk Foods Week, discounts will be offered on select bulk foods.

Participating regional grocers include Yoke’s Fresh Markets, Super 1 Foods, Main Market Co-op, Rosauers, Huckleberry’s Natural Market, Winter Ridge Natural Foods in Sandpoint, Pilgrim’s Market and Flour Mill Natural Foods in Hayden, Idaho.

Cabernet sauvignon release

Coeur d’Alene Cellars is celebrating the release of its cabernet sauvignon Friday afternoon.

The wine will be available for pairing with a light appetizer and tasting for $10 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the winery. Wine will also be available for purchase by the glass.

The winery is at 3890 N. Schreiber Way in Coeur d’Alene.
