Seattle edges Spokane Chiefs in Western Hockey League preseason play

KENNEWICK – Matthew Wedman scored twice, including the winner with 3 minutes, 33 seconds left, and the Seattle Thunderbirds edged the Spokane Chiefs 3-2 on Thursday in Western Hockey League preseason play at Toyota Center.

Carter Chorney and Adam Beckman scored for the Chiefs, who are 2-1-1-0 during preseason. Chorney broke a scoreless tie midway through the first period and Beckman scored his league-leading fifth goal of the preseason for a 2-1 lead midway through the game.

Wedman’s power-play goal with 17 seconds left in the second period tied the game at 2.

Spokane outshot Seattle 36-26. The Chiefs’ Campbell Arnold had 23 saves.

Spokane will play Tri-City on Saturday.
