As drought, flooding, market instability and inflation beset agriculture, now is a good time for farmers and regulators to put more emphasis on regenerative land management.

Our leaders have a rare chance to chart the future of our region’s ecology and economy and energy needs; to prevent extinction of the iconic fish that feed us and the endangered orcas, the ecosystems around us, and our Northwest way of life; and to deliver some measure of justice by fulfilling the promises we made to tribes who have always lived here.

It is disturbing that since the Spokane Police Department has announced that traffic patrols have been cut, the drivers of Spokane have chosen to act as if every street in town were a speedway. The streets seem to be filled with Mario Andretti wannabes.

Voters are tired of their CHOICES being ignored.

In 1948 the Athletic Round Table donated the land and raised the money to build the Spokane Memorial Stadium (to honor veterans of all wars) for high school football. WSU and EWU also played games there as well as numerous motor sports and concerts. After the field was raised 15 feet in 1995 semi-pro soccer was tried, but had few fans attend. Ample access and plenty of parking.

The first feeling is relief.

I find it ridiculous that people keep mentioning our budget when we discuss new spending. Our nation is currently 28 trillion dollars in debt with no intention of ever paying any of it back, so what possible difference does it make how much more we spend on anything?

We have an opportunity to bring together labor, manufacturing and environmental groups in support of something that could truly change the trajectory of our planet. That should start with manufacturing the renewable energy equipment here in the United States.

As the world pays new attention to supply chains, much of the focus has been on delays in delivering products to stores and consumers. What is called the forward supply chain, the path from raw material to the customer, is being scrutinized.
