Gonzaga-bound Chet Holmgren named Gatorade national player of year

Chet Holmgren on Wednesday was named the Gatorade national player of year and, just like the old days, Jalen Suggs came through with an assist. The former Gonzaga point guard surprised the future Zag Holmgren by presenting him with the award via a Zoom call.

Chris Standiford will be the new athletic director at Gonzaga. A day after Mike Roth announced he would be stepping down from the role on Aug. 31, GU announced that Standiford, the school's deputy director of athletics, would be taking his place.

Kaden Perry, one of four players in Gonzaga’s 2021 recruiting class, is slowly recovering from the non-contact injury three weeks ago. Perry said he heard a pop when he bent down and four or five more when he tried to jump up to defend a Prairie player’s shot. He was in pain immediately upon landing and crumpled to the court.
