Writer’s workshop planned in Sandpoint

The Lost Horse Press in Sandpoint is presenting a writer's workshop with local writer Peter Chilson July 16 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Oden Hall, 143 Sunnyside Road, Sandpoint. Chilson will discuss "Crossing the Boundaries of Genre: How Fiction and Nonfiction Complement Each Other," and the workshop is open to writers of all levels of fiction and nonfiction.

Crestline Baptist plans patriotic presentation

Crestline Baptist Church, 2206 E. 44th Ave., is hosting a patriotic musical Sunday during its 10 a.m. service. The adult choir is performing "In God We Trust," which will include familiar patriotic songs and hymns that will include quotations from historic figures.

Annie Herring and Matthew Ward will perform a concert of worship on Sunday at 6 p.m. at Calvary Chapel of Spokane, 511 W. Hastings Road. The two have been singing songs of praise and God's love together for nearly 30 years.

Many faiths will gather for ethnic potluck

The Interfaith Council is presenting "Faith, Food and Fair Trade: Ingredients for a Strong Community," an ethnic potluck and annual meeting on Tuesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at St. Ann's Parish Hall, 2120 E. First Ave. The evening will include music and poetry from the Baha'i, Sufi, Christian and Muslim communities, ethnic food, speakers from the Jewish, Hindu and Buddhist faiths, and a sale of products from around the world.

Former chaplain to Nelson Mandela to speak

The Fig Tree is presenting its Faith in Action Dialogue during three events on June 3. Peter Storey, who was the chaplain to Nelson Mandela when he was imprisoned at Robben Island Prison, will give several talks beginning with "Where in the World is the Media?" during a "Deepening Our Roots" benefit breakfast at 7:30 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church, 518 W. Third Ave. The meal will be catered by Christ Kitchen.

Christian Youth Theater to perform

The Christian Youth Theater is presenting "Snoopy!!!," the sequel to "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," at Spokane First Nazarene Church, 9004 N. Country Homes Blvd. The troupe will perform at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and May 27 and 28, and in matinees at 3 p.m. Saturday and May 28 and 29. It also will offer special school day performances on Tuesday and next Thursday at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Temple to unveil Holocaust Memorial

Temple Beth Shalom, 1322 E. 30th Ave., is unveiling Spokane's Holocaust Memorial next Thursday at 6 p.m. The memorial was created by Simon Kogan, an artist who received his Master of Fine Arts in Moscow, Russia, and has exhibits worldwide.

The Spokane Buddhist Temple, 927 S. Perry St., is presenting a lecture on "Karma and Your Destiny" Saturday at 3 p.m. Bhante Seelawimala, a professor at the Institute of Buddhists Studies in Berkeley, Calif. will speak on the subject and his travels during a recent trip to Sri Lanka.

The religious studies program at Gonzaga University, 502 E. Boone Ave., is presenting the Rev. Thomas Doyle today at 8 p.m. in the Spokane room of the COG dining area as part of the ongoing Catholicism for a New Millennium speaker series. Doyle will speak on the topic "Facing the Ongoing Crisis in the Church" and will discuss the sex abuse scandal.
