Hearing begins in Sgt. Moore Killing 12 

SReporter Scott Maben is covering the preliminary hearing today -- and possibly for the rest of the week -- in the slaying of Coeur d'Alene police Sgt. Greg Moore. Scott is at the county jail where Jonathan Daniel Renfro, 27, of Rathdrum faces a number of felony charges including first-degree murder. We will follow this legal proceeding throughout.

I-90 overpass work will close lanes

Motorists on Interstate 90 in Post Falls can expect lane closures over night on Thursday and Friday as crews begin the next stage of work on a new overpass. One westbound lane will be closed beginning at 8:30 p.m. Thursday and lasting until 5 a.m. Friday.

Idaho 2nd worst for women in US 

Idaho is the second worst state for women according to a 2015 WalletHub ranking. States were ranked in three categories — workplace environment, education and political empowerment — and in the overall ranking Idaho was ranked 49th, finishing above Utah, which was ranked as the worst U.S. state for women in 2015.

Lake CdA more polluted than Animas River?! 

We've all heard how polluted Colorado's Animas River is, thanks to a little help from its friends at the EPA. But did you know that five western waterways are worse than orange Animas. Unfortunately, the city of Coeur d'Alene sits on the northern edge of one of those. Yep, Lake Coeur d'Alene. High Country News provides more info.

No need to justify new wilderness 

In speaking to the Idaho Environmental Forum today, Congressman Mike Simpson said he doesn't even try to justify the new Boulder-White Clouds wilderness area. "Go up there and spend a few nights. It justifies itself," Simpson told the gathering. “I honestly believe that when God takes a vacation, he goes to the Boulder-White Clouds."

In Notes & Errata, Mark Morford, the well-known online columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle, writes about his annual getaway in the Sandpoint area: "Magical barely begins to cover it."
