Movie review: Schlocky sci-fi flick offers no ‘Mercy’ for the viewer

The schlocky dystopian action thriller “Mercy” touts itself as having been “filmed for IMAX,” but that’s not such a selling point when almost the entire film is a dim close-up of Chris Pratt strapped to a chair. This real-time AI mystery is a mashup of “Judge Dredd” and “Searching,” in which a Los Angeles detective (Pratt) has to prove himself innocent of murder during a 90-minute trial conducted by an artificially intelligent system called Mercy, presided over by an entity known as “Judge Maddox” (Rebecca Ferguson).

Movie review: Park Chan-wok’s ‘No Other Choice’ a cutting dark satire of capitalism

Legendary Korean auteur Park Chan-wook is the ultimate master of tone. No other living filmmaker could so elegantly dance the line between bleak, absurd, devastating and slapstick like he does in his 10th feature film and latest masterpiece, “No Other Choice,” a starkly hilarious satire about what it means to try and survive our current capitalist nightmare.

Chalamet thanked Safdie, the cast, his parents and his partner — Kylie Jenner, ...

Movie review: Butler makes predictable January return in ‘Greenland 2: Migration’

Gerard Butler is the Prince of January. You could print calendars now with the knowledge that the Scottish actor will invariably open the year with some kind of action bombast, ranging from the goofy (last year’s “Den of Thieves 2: Pantera”) to the earnest – this year’s disaster movie sequel “Greenland 2: Migration.” Butler reunites with his “Kandahar,” “Angel Has Fallen” and “Greenland” director Ric Roman Waugh for the film, and much like “Den of Thieves 2,” the film sees our star setting out for the south of France, under, of course, very different circumstances.

The biggest snubs and surprises of the 2026 Actor Awards nominations

Nominations for The Actors arrived Wednesday morning. And if you're thinking, "Actors nominations? Who voted for these awards?" I could go into an exaggerated Abbott and Costello routine or simply remind you that the Screen Actors Guild recently rebranded its annual award ceremony as the Actor Awards or, if you're not into the whole brevity thing, the Actor Awards presented by SAG-AFTRA.
