It’s never really a good time to find out you’ve been eliminated from a playoff spot, but the first of June seems a particularly cruel time. Yet, that’s where the Spokane Indians found themselves after their loss Sunday in Pasco.

The Spokane Indians’ record of 19-26 isn’t what they want after 45 games. But things may be looking up.

The Spokane Indians went into Hillsboro last week with the opportunity to put some distance between themselves and the Hops, who started the week in last place in the Northwest League. The opposite happened, as the home team took four of six games – sending the Indians to the bottom of the standings.

The Spokane Indians took four of six on the recently concluded home stand against Tri-City last week, securing their first series win since the three-game season-opening series in April against Everett.

The Spokane Indians kick off a six-game High-A Northwest League series against the Tri-City Dust Devils on Tuesday at 11:05 a.m. for their second “Education Day” game. The sun-drenched bleachers will be filled with elementary school kids and their chaperones hoping to see the home team get back on a winning track.

The Spokane Indians are in the midst of a season-high 12-game road trip through Everett and Eugene. They hope the second half of the trip goes better than the first.

After the first two series of the season – a three-game season-opening series at Avista Stadium against Everett and a six-game road trip at Hillsboro – the Spokane Indians return home with a 4-5 record.

There have been plenty of upgrades and renovations to Avista Stadium over the past few seasons as the Spokane Indians organization and Spokane County – owners of the 67-year-old facility – fulfilled requirements to remain compliant with MLB’s Player Development Contract each affiliate had to sign after the restructuring of the minor leagues a few years ago.

The Spokane Indians, in conjunction with their parent club the Colorado Rockies, announced that Tom Sutaris will take over as manager for the 2026 season after serving as bench coach the past two seasons under previous manager Robinson Cancel, who was named manager at Double-A Hartford. 

Winter still has its icy grip on the region, but the Spokane Indians are already thinking about the 2026 baseball season.

Less than a week after its final use of the Spokane Indians’ season, the Avista Stadium’s main concession building was destroyed by fire early Friday.
