Difference Makers: Cold case detective, forensic DNA scientist hope to inspire others after solving an infamous Spokane crime

Spokane Police Sgt. Zac Storment and Brittany Wright, a forensic DNA scientist, joined forces earlier this year to identify the killer of Candy Rogers, a 9-year-old slain in 1959. They're now hoping to inspire a new generation of sleuths to take a look at evidence that may be degrading on shelves in police departments' evidence rooms.

Police chief suspends anti-crime team, reassigns officers after judge tosses case over false statements

Judge Rosanna Malouf Peterson dismissed multiple criminal counts against Jody Lee Wallette, including distribution of the illicit opioid fentanyl, after suppressing evidence brought forward by Spokane Police Officers Scott Lesser and Winston Brooks. Lesser and Brooks are members of the department's Police Anti-Crime Team, or PACT, which has come under fire by people within and outside the department because of discrepancies between officer's notes and official reports.
