Hard rock radio kings Shinedown launched their national tour and kicked off the spring show season at Spokane Arena on Friday night. With support from the Taylor Momsen-lead the Pretty Reckless and Diamante, an up-and-coming hard-rock starlet, the evening was a delight for hard rock fans in Spokane.

Clutch brought an evening of high-energy riffing to a packed house at Knitting Factory on Sunday evening, while New Orleans sludge lords Eyehategod and the U.K.’s pop rock riffers Tigercub supported. The night was highlighted by heavy, down-tuned guitars, masterful showmanship and, believe it or not, a tater tot.

Legendary punk rock veterans Bad Religion played their first show in Spokane in their 40-year career at Knitting Factory on March 30, and the evening was filled with catchy punk riffs and plenty of circle pits. Bad Religion was so appreciative of the crowd that singer Greg Graffin promised to return to Knitting Factory.

Paul McCartney isn't the only recording artist kicking off his tour in April at Spokane Arena – Shinedown is doing the same Friday night. "There must be something in the water," vocalist Brent Smith said while calling from Jacksonville. "When we looked at where we should start our tour, Spokane is the best place for our band."

Melissa Etheridge has no idea what she'll perform when she returns Wednesday to Northern Quest Resort & Casino. "I never know what I'll play since I write a different setlist every night," Etheridge said while calling from Grass Valley, Calif. "I do know one thing. I will not call your city Spo-kane."

Penn & Teller, the longtime entertaining magicians and scientific skeptics, will finally make up their 2021 date at Northern Quest Resort & Casino on Friday. Teller, 74, the smaller and silent member of the veteran duo, called from Las Vegas to discuss his start in magic, how he selects guests to join the duo onstage and more.

Sarah Lancashire is all bubbly exuberance as Julia Child in “Julia” (TV-MA). The eight-episode limited series takes on the life and career of the woman who pioneered the modern cooking show and her loving marriage to a supportive husband (David Hyde Pierce). Three episodes available, new episodes on Thursdays.

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of “The Godfather,” the Magic Lantern Theatre, 25 W. Main Ave., will screen a digitally restored edition of director Francis Ford Coppola's 1972 Oscar-winning film starring Marlon Brando, Al Pacino and James Caan during several showings this weekend and into next week.

The assured feature debut of Macedonian-born, Australia-based Goran Stolevski (one of Variety's 10 directors to watch for 2022) is set in rural 19th century Macedonia and opens with the visit of a hideously burn-scarred witch (Anamaria Marinca) – known to villagers as both Old Maid Maria and the Wolf-Eateress.

"I, Too, Sing America" – 7 p.m. Monday, Myrtle Woldson Performing Arts Center, 211 E. Desmet Ave. The GU Music Department presents “I, Too, Sing America: The Friendship and Collaboration of Margaret Bonds & Langston Hughes.” The lecture-recital will feature professor Mary Trotter.

Directed by Jake Schaefer with musical direction by Henry McNulty, Spokane Civic Theatre’s production of “Funny Girl” opens Friday at 7:30 p.m. Delayed one week by material shortages and other supply chain issues, the show will run through April 24. The story plays out in a flashback by Fanny Brice (Kalla Mort).

After announcing the album last year and touring briefly over the summer, local stoner and hard rock band Twin Void headed back to the drawing board to piece together another huge project. They signed to Electric Valley Records, set dates for the release of “Free From Hardtimes” and got to cooking up a new tour.

Collaborative filmmakers Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, collectively known as the Daniels, have never been accused of resting on their laurels. They made a splash with their 2014 music video for the song "Turn Down for What," in which Kwan played a character at the mercy of his highly visible state of arousal.

In the surreal shadow of an insensitive joke that ended in physical violence courtesy of Chris Rock and Will Smith, respectively, Lady Gaga and Liza Minnelli took the stage to announce the Academy Award for best picture. And it was everything. At first, Minnelli, 76, appears flustered, possibly overwhelmed by the setting.

"Mothering Sunday" neatly embodies all the promises and pitfalls of literary adaptation. Based on a spare, exquisitely crafted novel by Graham Swift, this thoughtful but ultimately inert dramatization respects its source material and tries valiantly to give arresting visual expression to its finely layered themes.

Four adult brothers are at the center of "The Devil You Know," an efficient and well-acted family drama with the overlay of a modern morality tale: Marcus (Omar Epps), Anthony (Curtiss Cook), Drew (William Catlett) and Terry Cowans (Vaughn W. Hebron). The story is written and directed by Charles Murray.
