On Tuesday join The HARK Quartet, a Christian women's singing group, for an evening of "Opera, Oratorio and Chocolate." The event begins at 7 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 13009 E. “ Eastern Washington University recently honored the following local students for their academic excellence. John Spracklen of Spokane was awarded a $1,000 Alumni scholarship. He is the son of John and Teresa Spracklen of Medical Lake and is a 2005 Medical Lake High School graduate.

Achievements: Area Boy Scouts attain Eagle rank

The following three local members of Troop 13 recently were awarded the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank awarded to Boy Scouts. Nathaniel Johnson of Spokane is the son of Garth and Kuulei Johnson of Spokane and is a recent graduate of Mead High School. For his project, he designed, constructed, and installed roadside reader boards to indicate fire danger level at two district fire stations.

Achievements: Benjamin Dykstra completes basic military training

Air Force Airman Benjamin Dykstra graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He is the son of Patricia Dykstra of Cheney and a 2005 graduate of Cheney High School. “Pvt. First Class Parker Bailey graduated from Marine Corps Recruit Depot boot camp in San Diego recently. He will be on recruiter's assistance duty in Spokane. Bailey is the son of Ike Bailey and Kari Barto.

Golf to aid Kootenai Humane Society

The Kootenai Humane Society will hold the second annual North Idaho Junior Golf Classic on Tuesday at the Avondale Golf Course, 10745 N. Avondale Loop in Hayden. The tournament for ages 8 to 17 will begin at noon with a shotgun start and includes tee prizes; longest drive, closest to the pin, and putting/chipping contests; trophies and a barbecue.

Smith is a graduate of Gonzaga Prep.

Cold-treat sales will aid Miracle Network

On Thursday, Dairy Queen will host Miracle Treat Day and donate proceeds from every Blizzard ice cream treat sold to Children's Miracle Network. Children's Miracle Network is a nonprofit organization that raises funds for children's hospitals. Proceeds will stay in the local community.
