With the 2016 Daytona 500 coming up in a few weeks and celebrating 58 years, I still talk with friends about that very first race in 1959 and the photo finish between Johnny Beauchamp and Lee Petty.

For whatever reason, and following a wonderful year of car design in 1957, most every manufacturer in my opinion added bulk, chrome, and even more weight and then ushered in the beginning of a fin era that would quickly get out offhand by 1960.

We're driving the 2016 Mazda6, a fine looking mid-size sedan from front to back. Good looks aside, Mazda6 delivers an outstanding 40-MPG highway EPA number along with very good performance thanks to Mazda's respected Skyactiv powertrain combination.

I am undertaking a retirement project to find a Ford truck as similar as possible to the first vehicle I drove, which was my dad's Ford truck which I had to wait until age 8 to drive.

Back in the late 40s and 50s my grandfather bought a series of Studebaker cars: the first being a Land Cruiser (fine car: a 1950, I think) followed by others of increasingly poor quality, but increasingly more radical in design.

I bought a 69 Camaro from a guy in Texas with an old Chevy crate engine in it called an LS7 Big Block. He installed the LS7 in the car in the late 1980's and the number stamped on the block is TL02XCH09488093.

This week, we’re driving the 2015 Nissan Juke SL AWD that is classified by the EPA as a small station wagon. Although Nissan originally built the Juke to attract a younger demographic, an expanding number of baby boomers are driving Jukes, and Nissan expects this trend to continue.
