Hockey has provided some of the greatest highlights in Inland Northwest sports history, ranging from Allan Cup senior amateur championships to Memorial Cup major junior crowns to a minor league pro title to a brief stint in one of hockey’s first major leagues.
Former Washington State standout Sydney Studer scored on a header during first-half stoppage time to extend Carolina Ascent FC’s advantage to two goals, and the visitors protected their lead in the second half en route to a 2-0 USL Super League victory over Spokane Zephyr FC on Sunday night at ONE Spokane Stadium.

VANCOUVER, B.C. – The Spokane Indians took the season series over the Vancouver Canadians with 20 wins against eight losses. The domination – as far as wins and losses go – continued in the postseason, at least for the first game.
The Spokane Indians held the top spot in the Northwest League standings just about all season. They won the first half title by 3 1/2 games (over Hillsboro) and the second half by three games over Vancouver. Overall, their 79-51 season record was best in the league by 10 1/2 games.
Washington native Taryn Ries scored her first goal for Spokane Zephyr FC, but Brooklyn FC used a late penalty kick to force a 1-1 draw on Sunday evening in USL Super League play at ONE Spokane Stadium.
