The construction of the Chief Joseph Dam on the Columbia River faced issues of winter approaching and high water levels. Workers’ two goals were to have the first stage of concrete in place on the north half of the river channel before the cold weather stopped all concrete work and to schedule a call for the construction of a cofferdam before high water came in the spring.
A veteran primary school teacher was fired after a unanimous decision by the three-person school board in Nicasio, California. Garnet E. Brennan openly admitted she had been using marijuana for 18 years. The school board cited, “California law requires that all students be taught the basic principles of good citizenship.”
